A Look At My New Goal Bike
Well, I’ve owned my new goal bike for three days now but I’ve only been able to ride it for only a few hours. I had actually planned at least three rides totaling like five hours but it was either pouring rain or we were busy. Such is living in Illinois in the spring when the weather is completely unpredictable.
Anyhow, I thought I’d share a nice laundry list of what I ended up with on this sweet bike.
- 2010 Lynskey Cooper Titanium Frame Size ML in Satin Finish
- Alpha Q Carbon Fork
- Cane Creek 110
- SRAM Force Front and Rear Dérailleurs
- SRAM Force Cranks (39 / 53 x 172.5)
- SRAM Force Brake Set (Front & Rear)
- SRAM Force Double Tap Levers
- SRAM Force Cassette (11 x 26)
- SRAM PC1070 Chain
- FSA Wing Pro 31.8 Handlebar
- FSA OS190 Stem
- Michelin Pro 3 Race Tires 700×23
- Mavic Ksyrium Elite Wheelset
- FSA SLK 31.6 x 350mm Seatpost
- Selle Italia SL Carbonio Flow Black Saddle
- Cinelli Cork Black Bar Tape
- Speedplay Zero Chromoly Pedals
- Sidi Dominator Mega Shoes
And here are a few quick pictures (aka bike porn) of the bike itself.
As you can see there’s quite a number of cool components to oogle over. For the short distance I’ve ridden it I can already say it’s amazing. My average speed is noticeably higher, I can stand and attack and not feel like my bottom bracket or frame is going to explode, and I feel like there is a crazy amount to learn and strive for with this bike. So far I couldn’t be happier and really think this is going to help my fitness greatly.
I had my first embarassing biking incident last evening. This is my first bike with clip in shoes so I’m a 100% novice at using them. They feel great while riding but I’ve only had to stop and clip out while riding a few times. Last night when I was coming home after a short ride I clipped out on my right foot and proceeded to tilt and fall left, hard onto my hip. I scuffed up my new seat, got freaked out that I broke my bike, bruised my ars and my ego as well as my neighbor was sitting there watching me.
Needless to say I’ll be clipping out both feet all the time upon arrival from now on.

DIGGING THE BIKE PORN! I’m in the process of hunting down a bike for myself. Bikesdirect has some awesome sales so I’m seriously considering.
Did you get fitted?
And, clipless pedals are going to be interesting
I’ve heard of many people falling over in the beginning. I’m sure I will, too so don’t feel bad.

What a sweet ride!
I have serious bike envy! When I bought a bike this year, I was much more conservative and went with a relatively inexpensive commuter hybrid/road bike, Trek 7.3.
I’ve been tempted by clipless pedals and aero-bars, but keep putting off the purchases.
Since Greg LeMond days, I always had this tentative Tour de France interest.
Instead of a Chicago Fitness blogger lunch meetup, we should have a Chicago Ftiness blogger bike ride.
Bike looks great! I don’t know if I’ve heard of too many people who didn’t fall early on learning the clipless pedals!
When you can get the aero bars! They relieve stress on your hands, arms, back and neck not too mention that when you’re in aero position you are at your fastest. I only got cheap $50 set but love them!
It is easier to get used to clipless pedals if you get in the habit of always clipping out with the same foot when you come to a stop (you don’t really need to unclip both feet every time you stop). The left foot is the best one to choose, because if the right foot stays clipped in, you won’t be able to brush up against the chainring and get a greasy black smear on your calf. Start out by unclipping that left foot about 30-40 feet from where you intend to stop, and as you get more practice you will naturally shorten that distance.
Sweet ride!
I started my lifestyle change 18 months ago by biking, then slowly adding running, circuit training, healthy eating, yoga, weight training, etc. My bike, however, has always been a piece of junk, and I had been wanting to get a new / better one for a while.
I just got this 6 weeks ago and I’m completely in love:

Am using it daily (lucky to live in Pensacola where it’s easy to bike year-round) for exercise & commuting.
I swapped out the clip pedals for a set of standard pedals due to balance issues I have and being concerned about needing to put a foot down quickly. Maybe at some point I’ll put ‘em back on, but it works well as it is!
