Stepping On The Scale Saturday
I’ve been working hard on my 23 day ride streak and really pushing myself to not only finish it but do it with gusto and dare I say panache. I’ve only take 2 easier days where I either rode with my daughter or only 15 minutes of spinning. All of the other days have been serious intervals, mock climbing, or steady tempo riding.
Today marks the 22nd day of the streak and I’ve burned over 12,000 calories in the past 2 weeks (19,000 since starting). With those calories I’ve been eating pretty clean as well staying near my daily calorie limit of 1,800 though sometimes that was after the calorie burn. I won’t lie and say I didn’t have an ice cream cone a few times or a free meal but that’s part of the lifestyle, even if you’re training.
But did it translate into a loss, that’s the question … onto the scale.
Previous Weight — 276.0 lbs (on 07.07.2012)
Current Weight — 273.8 lbs
Change In Weight — -2.2 lbs
Not the number I’d like to see for 2 weeks of hard work … given I’ve done all endurance training and no circuits or weight training though I can’t complain too much. As my wife pointed out, my body reacts better to circuits than endurance when it comes to weight loss.
I’ve also been starved a lot more the past few weeks and thus have eaten more but never much over my allowance (taking into account the workout). I’ve setup my calorie target to supposedly burn 2 pounds per week. Either way, a loss is a loss and we’re moving in the right direction.
How have your weight and fitness goals been going?

In my experience I have found weight loss m ore responsive to meal skipping than heavy exercise, the reason is complicated but physiologically the body is better (burns less fat) at efficiently using energy ereserves during exercise.
If you skip a meal (generally lunch or dinner) , you will trick the body into diving into reserve fat stores more often. You’ll know it’s working when you feel that slight hunger pang.
Ty it for a week or two, nothing radical, just skip a meal now and again.
A loss IS a loss! Great job! And glad to hear you’ve been out on your bike!
