Wordless Wednesday, Titanium Water Bottle Cages

During my recent Dairyland Dare ride my seat mounted triathlon water bottle cages randomly loosened making it quite difficult to retrieve and replace my bottle. I had to use the leg opposite the water bottle I wanted to retrieve to apply counter pressure to prevent it from rotating. I guess the rougher roads combined with the constant use caused the hex bolt to loosen.

Prior to the race I wanted to use frame mounted water bottle cages but being particular about color and style meant I wasn’t able to find any to match my Satin Lynskey frame in time. We can’t have clashing cages now can we?

Moots Titanium Water Bottle Cage

I’m pretty excited about these new Moots titanium water bottle cages not only because of the matching finish and because my seat mounted cage was loosening. This past Sunday I did a 80 mile group training ride and during the ride there were a number of times I questioned the safety of seat mounted bottles. The last thing you want to do in a group ride or a ride when you’re in a pace line or echelon is drop a bottle. It’s a crash waiting to happen and there were a number of times when I was contorted backwards doing 30 mph when I wished my water bottle was in a less risky location.

I’ll try to take some pictures on the bike tomorrow when I have a chance. Pretty slick looking aren’t they?
